VB.Net Code Samples

My goal is to supply small, but complete code samples in VB.Net, using the simplest possible examples to show the syntax and mechanics of the code. I just want to share this information with whoever may find it useful.

All of these code samples are available in one form or another somewhere on the web, but can be suprisingly difficult to find. I try to stress only one point in each example. I intend to keep on posting new code samples as much as possible.

Plus, I'm afraid I have drifted off course, away from the main theme by appending pages that do not deal with VB.Net at all, but some of my other interests.

Air Traffic Control Automation

For example I added a section about legacy Air Traffic Control computers, which I worked with for many years. It turned out that there seems to be much more interest in Air Traffic Automation than VB.Net It's not the main focus of this site but since people want to know, I provide what information that I can.

Hearing parents with deaf children

Secondly, I added a small section about Deaf Children with Hearing Parents, which is still a work in progress. I did this because circumstances led me into American Sign Language, which of course brought me into contact with many deaf friends and aquaintences. My experience in this area caused me to realize that, on the average, deaf children growing up with hearing parents who don't learn sign language are virtual strangers in their own homes. My hope is to encourage hearing parents with deaf children to learn to communicate with their deaf children, even if these have some slight hearing so as to learn spoken language. It can make the difference between a well adjusted deaf adult who can manage successfully in the hearing world and one who has to depend on the deaf culture for all of their emotional needs. There is nothing wrong with deaf culture, but when parents are wholly ignorant of that world, there is usually a wide gulf between parent and child. This schism is something most deaf are aware of, but hearing parents tend to be clueless.

I hope to continue to add to this page as I can to help hearing parents see their responsibilities to there deaf children.

Citizen Science in the Information Age

A work in progress, but if you haven't been paying attention you'll find that science has been completely changed in the last few years. I'll be added small segments of interest as I can, starting with some scientific fundamentals that should not be ignored, but that are often ignored even by scientist. More later.
